Today's "Share the Love" Feature: Kamree Dixon, Former Mentee

Below are some snippets from Kamree's senior essay sharing what the Marietta Mentoring for Leadership Program has meant to her:

Let's start at the beginning of my high school career, freshman year. The first year of high school is full of hope and possibilities - a year that consists of getting accustomed to a new school, new rules, new students and new teachers. Coach Marquis, my Team Sports teacher, recommended me for the Mentoring for Leadership Program. 

When I received my acceptance into the Mentoring for Leadership program, I was about to start my sophomore year of high school. During my sophomore year, my grades started to go down the drain. My GPA was taking a severe nosedive at the start of my sophomore year, and kept going into the middle of the year. At that point, it seemed hopeless that I’d recuperate from such a significant blow to my GPA. That’s when Mrs. Kellogg came into my life. She came along and scooped me up off the pavement, and boy did I need it. She helped me stay on top of my grades. Every time I came to her office to visit, she would check my grades and encourage me to bring them up quickly. I’d come to Mrs. Kellogg to inquire as to when I’d get my mentor. Once we found someone we felt was compatible for me, I finally got my mentor. I was so excited I felt like a kid on Christmas morning.
