We believe every person deserves the opportunity to fulfill their potential.

Beverly McAfee

Founder & Dream Weaver

Beverly McAfee has been a force of compassion, vision, and action in Marietta for decades. She is the driving force behind Marietta Mentoring for Leadership and has dedicated her life to mentoring those around her. She cares deeply about helping students achieve their full potential and reach for their dreams.

Beverly is an active member of First United Methodist Church. She has served and continues to serve on numerous boards and committees…there are simply too many to list. She works tirelessly to make Marietta one of the best places to live and learn.

She is truly a force to be reckoned with and she greets each day with the goal of getting the support needed for her various causes. Her motto has always been, “If it can’t be done in Marietta, then it can’t be done anywhere!”

Marge Kellogg

Match Coordinator

Marjorie Kellogg, fondly known as “Miss K” to our students, brings an educational background that spans all levels of education, from elementary to high school. A pioneer of mentoring in Marietta City Schools, she accumulated numerous awards and accolades including:

  • NAACP, Cobb County, Freedom Fund Award
  • National Educator Award, Milken Family Foundation
  • Employee of the Year, Marietta City Schools
  • YWCA Woman of Achievement Award

Claire Dodd

Program Coordinator

Claire Dodd, a former Blue Devil herself, works closely with our students as the Program Coordinator.  She is a recent graduate of the University of Georgia, where she earned a degree in Human Development and Family Sciences.  Throughout her 4 years in Athens, Claire led tours for prospective students and parents through the UGA Visitors Center.  Her experience working closely with the university paired with her youthful perspective, brings a wealth of knowledge surrounding the college application process.  She has a passion for encouraging, inspiring and exposing students to new opportunities and perspectives that will allow them to recognize their potential and grow in their identity.

Shikera Johnson

Program Coodinator

Shikera Johnson, also known as “Coach Shak”, is a Georgia native. She graduated from Marietta High School in 1998 and became a first generation graduate of Kennesaw State University, where she earned her degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. Shikera’s very grateful that her son was able to have experienced the magic of mentoring through Mentoring for Leadership.

She takes pride in knowing every aspect of the program: first a student with several mentors, being a mentor, a parent of a student with a mentor, a board member, and now the program coordinator for the middle school program. She is the proof that the program and mentoring WORKS!! She has been involved with children for over 20 years. She really enjoys taking youth on overnight educational experiences.

Our Board of Directors

The MFL Board of Directors is composed of members from both the public and private sector. With designated representatives from Marietta City Schools, MFL is a community based mentoring program
partnering with the school system to augment and complement school initiatives. The members of our board actively serve as mentors and on committees and support the organization financially. We are very fortunate to have such an engaged board.
